My Father

Dad as a young man in the Inverkeithing Pipe Band. He is the man on the far right.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dad was a very keen gardener and on the event of his death my nephew Jon's wife Alyson, wrote this very touching poem.

A Gardner For Eden

God looked around with much unrest,

His Eden was an awful mess.

Adam and Eve had long since gone,

And as the birds sang in the dawn

All God could see for miles around,

Were the weeds that choked his Holy ground.

And all at once God had a plan,

For this he’d need a special man:

Someone who’d care for every flower,

Watch over Eden hour by hour.

Who’d weed and water, plant and sow,

And watch the young plants start to grow,

And nourish them along the way,

And talk to every plant each day.

Someone who’d know each plant by name,

And never treat them all the same,

But give each plant the care it needs,

Removing all invading weeds.

To make his Eden plan succeed,

God needs a special man indeed,

So though our loss has made us cry,

And pray to God for reasons "Why?"

We’re all now proud to understand,

That Eden’s now in Granddad's hands.

Dad was a great model maker and inventor. I remember this photo being taken for a local newspaper.
